On the outside, Yue seems to be snarky and prideful, but she was actually hiding her soft, emphatic side. She could be charming when she wanted to, something that she uses often to get what she wants. Although she won’t admit it, she likes being surrounded by people and seems to have an invisible magnet that draws people in, thus making her a great leader. She won't hesitate to protect those she cared about, although the methods she uses might be morally questionable. Before her mother's death, she has a more cheerful personality and less cynical outlook on the world. What's still the same is that she's very stubborn and won't stop until she got what she wanted. She's hardworking and diligent, and can’t get on a day without something to do, even if it’s a simple task.
Abilities
Overall abilities: Yue is a genius chemist, able to create different kinds of drugs to suit her needs. She is also a great detective, able to gain clues from various information she received.
Evol: She can absorb energy from living beings through touch. It can induce tiredness, syncope, coma, and to the most extreme, death. The energy she absorbed enables her cells to regenerate faster when she has injuries.
Combat: She is trained in using various weapons such as guns and knifes as well as hand-to-hand combat.
Background
Yue was born from a test tube as "Subject No.02" at a secret Black Swan Facility from an experiment led by Hecate, a former Black Swan Twelves. Through out her childhood, she spent most of her time inside the facility, hidden from the outside world, due to her dangerous and uncontrollable evol, though with a privilege that not many seen in the organisation due to Hecate's influence, giving her the nickname "little princess of Black Swan". She also had uncanny intelligence for her peers; at five, she understood middle school level chemistry and has a fixation for solving difficult puzzles.
At 12 years old, after succesfully mastering her evol, Yue begged her mother to go to a normal school. Although reluctantly, Hecate sent her to America where Lucien was having his doctorate. She went to the school where Kiro was, but due to her intelligence, enrolled in the same class. Kiro became her companion and mentor as Helios. Lucien was also assigned to be her academic tutor until her final school year.
When an internal power-struggle happened in Black Swan, Yue was put in jeopardy as Hecate's influence weakened. They suffered multiple assassination attempts and burglary seeking Hecate's valuable secrets. On her 18th birthday, she found the lab where she grew up was on fire, as well as her mother dying. After that incident, Yue vowed to avenge her death. She continued her school in America until she graduated with a master degree in pharmaceutical chemistry, while also raised to the ranks as one of the new Black Swan's Twelve Gods, taking the alias "Selene", the goddess of the moon.
After two years, Yue was finally back in Loveland to carry out her plans. She took over Eclipse, a pharmaceutical company formerly owned by Hecate. Her first appearance in the main story is meeting Lucien in STF (Chapter 1 Season 2).
Meaning of the Name
CN: 杨玥 (Yáng Yué), 杨 is a common surname means poplar/willow, while 玥 came from a chinese myth of a divine pearl that shines as bright as the moon.
EN: During school in America, Yue used the alias Celine Yang. Celine is a name of French/Latin origin meaning “heavenly”, also similarly sounding with "Selene" that means "the moon".
JP: かぐや (Kaguya) means "radiant night".The name originates from the japanese story 赫映姫の物語 (Kaguya-hime no Monogatari, “The Tale of Princess Kaguya”), a mysterious girl from the moon.
KR: 윤은월 (Im Eun-Wol), 윤 (Im) is a common surname that means “forest” and 은월 (Eun-Wol) means “silver moon”.
Hobbies
Baking: Yue likes to bake various food like cookies, cakes, and bread, which she usually does to de-stress while ranting about her problems. She forced those closest of her to became her taste-tester of new recipes.
Art: During leisure time, she likes to paint in a canvas (most often plants or her favourite cats), go to an art gallery, or listens to classical music.
Puzzles: Since a child, she's very fond of puzzles, especially rubik's cube. She collects them in many types of shapes and colours.
Street feeding: She walks to parks on the evening and feed stray cats that she found.
Shopping: She's interested in fashion and frequently buy clothes online, justifying it as rewarding herself. When she has time, she went thrifting in Westmoon Street, buying vintage clothes or small trinkets to decorate her home like antique porcelains.
Relationship with Lucien
Yue first met Lucien when he was 11 and she was 5 in the corridors of Hecate's lab. She had ran away from her nurses and bumped into Lucien on the way, and was immediately interested in the boy for she never interacted with other children before. While for Lucien, he was surprised to find Yue having colours in his eyes when he is supposedly colourblind due to Black Swan's experiments. Lucien claimed to be the new lab assistant, but actually Hecate had arranged their encounter as at that time she thought Yue needed a playmate. Lucien was chosen and sent by his mentor with the guise of "learning lab work". From then on, Lucien took an almost "babysitter" role to Yue, accompanying her to play and make sure she behaves around her monitoring doctors and nurses, especially when getting injections she hates the most. The plan seemingly worked because Yue grew attached with Lucien, calling him "gege" (big brother) and refusing to do anything without him. Lucien could only follow her wishes helplessly, although he found himself caring of her as if a real family, and is especially fond of her quirky thoughts and stubbornness. He forced himself to always looks "perfect" in front of her. Yue liked solving rubik's cube, and Lucien could only play them in Yue's presents as he has to hide his colourblindness, going as far as memorising the sequence.
Eventually after a year together, Lucien and Yue had to part because Lucien had to go to a boarding school in England. Yue promised that she will follow him, and Lucien promised that when they meet again, he'll never leave again. Years after that, 12-years-old Yue gained the permission from Black Swan to go to school in America, where Lucien was having his doctorate. Lucien accepted the "mission" to become Yue's tutor and protector. They can only met several times a month due to their places being far from each other, sometimes with Lucien extending the visit to buy her ice cream or feed stray cats in the park. Yue noticed that Lucien grew more distant, but try not to overthink it as he was still very kind and gentle towards her, in contrast to when she watched him work as "Ares". In two years, his "false" sense of warm took Yue's heart. Young and foolish, she followed love "advises" from her much older friends in school. She began to wear more revealing clothes and visited him whenever possible, and Lucien had to take her home as she's gaining the attention of males around her. Yue also requested for more tutoring hours, which Lucien can't help but agree. After he graduated his doctorate, he requested to stop tutoring Yue as to "focus more on his research" and deemed Yue "already learned enough to enter college", though the real reason was he began to have strange "feelings" about her and thought it to be inappropriate. Feeling rejected, Yue stopped pursuing him, but they remained in contact.
However, during Black Swan’s internal power struggle, their relationship worsened. Yue asked Lucien for help as she and Hecate suffered multiple assassination attempts, but Lucien rarely answered her calls. Unknowingly by her, Hecate had told him to not contact them and pursue the assailant secretly. During a Black Swan meeting in which Yue took over Hecate’s place as she was hurt from yet another burglary, Lucien announced his departure, shocking her and the rest of the Twelves. She confronted him outside, demanding the reason, but Lucien can’t answer as he’ll put Yue in danger, thus stating that it was “none of her business” as they’re not in the same force anymore. She began to become emotional, questioning about his promise “to never leave her again” and his sincerity towards her, and Lucien retorted that she was too naive and should’ve known all along that she was just “Subject No. 02” in which he had the duty to protect, and that he didn’t need her for his plans anymore. Heartbroken, Yue told him to never show up in front of her again.
Regardless of what she said, they briefly met again 2 years later. Lucien, who just came back to Loveland and was visiting his parents’ grave, found Yue also visiting Hecate’s grave under the heavy rain. He offered to protect Yue by taking her away from Black Swan, but she refused, claiming she "doesn't need his help anymore" and left. They won't meet each other again until the next 2 years.
After meeting again, Yue has little to no trust on Lucien, but she thought no one is more capable than him to be "her pawn" in her quest for revenge, and it's always better to have the dangerous man on her side. Secretly, Lucien has been monitoring her since the time they separated and delegated others to help her, holding the promise that "he won't leave her". As they cooperated, Yue found her old feelings for him creeping back to her heart, intensified with the way Lucien tried to get close to her again as if making up for lost time. Several times she got jealous of Lucien's closeness with other woman, but decided to keep it to herself. Lucien too started to question whether his feelings for her is merely just of "a family" or more. Although he's more than willing to be her pawn, he still doesn't trust her with her own safety and had a plan himself in order to protect her, essentially hindering him from admitting his feelings. When Yue found out Lucien has been lying to her again, she only blamed herself for ever trying to trust him again.
Relationship with Kiro
Yue first met with Kiro during her school in America. She was enrolled in the same class with him despite being 2 years younger, as Hecate wanted her to be protected by another BS agent. They became immediate friends with Kiro's sunny disposition and Yue who reluctantly follows him, slightly charmed by his evol. He taught her how to play the piano, though at the end she wasn't too good at it and prefer to just listen to his playing. As Helios, he mentored her in learning combat fighting, using various weapons so as to not rely on her evol alone. He enjoyed educating her until she's surrendered and begged for rest, much to her annoyance. Other than that, she also learned a bit of hacking from him.
When Yue had a crush with Lucien, Kiro think that it was a bad idea, but still drives her to Lucien's place, also helping her to get a "grown up" make over. In Helios mode, he warned Lucien not to hurt her feelings. After she stopped pursuing Lucien, Kiro too was there to hear her ventings and cheer her up from her first heartbreak.
During BS internal power struggle, Kiro as Helios seemingly the only one defending Yue and Hecate. After Hecate's death, Kiro helped her pick up her pieces and together became one of BS Twelve. Instead of taking Hecate's name, they deliberately chose the name "Selene" for her, who in the Greek mythology is Helios's sister, as to give the message that they can't mess with her or risk messing with Helios too. After coming back to Loveland, Yue continued to have close contact with Kiro as friends, and they helped each other's plans.
They both liked eating sweets and frequently tried new food places together. Yue also forced Kiro to be taste-tester whenever she tried baking new recipes, often not with good result.
Relationship with Youran
Yue and Youran's fate has long been intertwined without their knowledge. Hecate created Yue with the purpose of making the first man-made evolver, but three years going, Yue awoken her evol and the project might be deemed a failure. Her evol allows her to absorb energy from living beings, making her stronger and possibly immortal, but it was unstable and she constantly needed energies like a vampire. This make people can't come closer to her or they would immediately fainted. Hecate was already desperate because Yue might die, and that's when she found hope in Youran's father. He was also one of BS higher ups, and offered her cooperation: to make Yue absorb CORE from 5-years-old Youran, in the hopes that Yue's evol might became stable and CORE will be gone completely. The experiment was half-successful; Yue's evol became stable and her body is no longer in constant hunger for energy, but Youran's CORE isn't completely removed because the power is simply too great. So together they create a barrier inside her body that can conceal CORE's power, and they vowed to keep it a secret until the time comes. They would only found out about it when they're older.
Yue and Youran became one of BS Twelve at a close time, and since having no other close friends of her age and gender to help her survive in Black Swan, Yue offered cooperation with Youran, exchanging many valuable informations, while Youran's Miracle Entertainment kept her illegal dealings under rug and maintain Eclipse's reputation, even making ads for her products. Sometimes Youran will also recruit Yue as experts for her show, Miracle Finder. Eventually, Yue regarded her not only as a friend, but also an older sister.
Relationship with Victor
Yue simply knows Victor as the CEO LFG but has never interacted with him until LFG tried to buy her company. She thought he was the most capitalist "prick" she has ever met, but changed when she knows he was actually BS Boss and the reason behind him wanting to take over her company is in order to protect the citizen of Loveland. From then they reached a mutually beneficial cooperation, though Yue often annoyed that Victor seems to boss her around like an employee. In BS, it's often said that if Nox was his right hand, then Selene was on his left. Sometimes he would invite her to Souvenir to try his cooking, and they shared baking tips and love for cats.
Relationship with Gavin
Yue only met with Gavin briefly several times as usually her company was routinely checked by STF after producing small syringe. She prefers to not get on his radar as to not get arrested, though Gavin already has her files and Selene and just waiting to find the chance to arrest her.
Relationship with Shaw
Yue discovered Shaw's antique store as she liked to shop for antiques. She frequently bought from him until she found out the boy isn't what he seems. For extra income, Shaw deals informations, and Yue recruited him to has more eyes on the street, though he charged her with exorbitant amount of money to her annoyance.
